Close To My Heart Aurora Papers 1 Sketch 2 Layouts

The Aurora collection is so special. The Aurora Borealis is shown on 2 papers, a starry night filled with constellations is on 2 more, and a gradation of mountains on the next 2. They are wonderful!! I decided to take my "Make It From Your Heart" vol 3 sketch book and pack of Aurora papers into my video room and make something happen. The sketch I chose could be used vertically or horizontally. I cut the papers (paying attention to the orientation of the design) 6 x 12, 4 x 12, 1/2x12, and 1 1/2 x 12. You could just make the cuts 2, 4, 6 for ease. The number of pictures are up to you. I used the suggested picture layout from the book on the 1st layout and put fewer pictures on the 2nd. Once again, it's up to you. Then embellish away! I used the Julep shimmer tape which worked beautifully. These specific items are available until June 30th but any papers can be used and the "Make It From Your Heart" vol 3 sketch book will continue to be available.

With Sympathy-Cards That Are Sad To Create

There are cards that are for birthday's, weddings, holidays, thank you, congratulations, ... you get the idea. The one event in life that is so difficult is the loss of a loved one. I was recently very grateful for a couple of Close To My Heart stamps sets that helped me make a cards for friends that lost their son rather unexpectedly. It's so hard for me to come up with the words to say, so the sentiments from the ""With Heartfelt Sympathy" is a stamp set that will help me now and in the future with this emotionally difficult task. Colors are your choice. We are coming to the end of our catalogs, so this set may not be available after August 2020.

Here are the stamp sets I used:

Embossing Adds Dimension To Your Cards

I've used Heat and dry embossing to add interest and dimension to this Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge card. The stamp set is the July Stamp of the Month. This set has sweet images that are perfect for coloring. I decided to play with heat embossing on vellum then coloring the vellum with our Tri-Blend markers. The coloring was very easy and gave a different look than cardstock. The dry embossing folder I used is from my stash but you could use a lot of different ones. I love this little girl with a great big bouquet of flowers!

Using the New Close To My Heart Watercolor Pencils

I wanted to "play" with the new color pencils to get a better feel for them. I did learn if you want to add more color don't press harder, just add more layers of the same color in a different direction, ie. sideways, up & down, diagonally. Try to soften a color by using the white pencil over the color. It's fun to get back into coloring after a very long hiatus.

Here is my process video showing the watercolor pencils:

Garage Project Sketchy Challenge

I'm continuing Jim's plane building project with a Sketchy challenge from Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. The sketches are easy to work with, not so much detail that you have to have a cutting diagram, yet they are still interesting. This is a one page layout for the most recent work he's completed on the plane. He hasn't given me the pix yet so my photos spots are empty. Sorry about that!

Here's the sketch for the May 2020 Sketchy Challenge
This is my layout for the challenge. I'm using the very manly papers, Urban. They are perfect for hubby's project!! The letters were cut out with the Art Philosophy cartridge on Saffron cardstock. The cork embellishments were from my stash of Grateful. The papers were the Urban collection and the backgroud is Sapphire.

The process video is on my YouTube page:

Using Our New Watercolor Pencils for a Sweet Card

I needed a card for a very dear friend. The upcoming July Stamp of the Month has the perfect images and sentiments for this card so I'm giving you a preview of this sweet stamp set. I used mix-in papers with subtle designs so as to not detract from the main stamp of a girl carrying a bouquet of flowers. I decided I had to use this stamp and I decided it was perfect to showcase our new watercolor pencils. I love our new pencils!!

A Million Little Things is a perfect stamp set for water coloring flowers. I used watercolor pencils but markers or traditional water colors would work as well. Blue Skies Paper and Sweet Hummingbird Stamp - A Perfect Combination

The Sweet Hummingbird stamp set has lovely flowers and two hummingbirds in flight. I loved using the watercolor pencils to blend beautiful blues, greens and purples to create my hummingbird. The lagoon embossed paper from the Blue Skies Coordinating cardstock set off the hummingbird perfectly. The thin cuts make cutting out so easy. The card design is the Mojo Monday challenge 536.

Organizing My Thin Cuts (or Die Cuts) Using CTMH Albums

When I started purchasing Close To My Heart Thin Cuts, I thought an easy way to store them was in a 6 x 8 album using 6 x 8 single pocket pages and 6 x 8 pages with 2 horizontal 4 x 6 pockets. That allowed me to quickly flip through the pages and find each particular die. Fast forward to years later and the book, now books became burdensome. I needed to put a more organized method in place.

Because of the large number of Thin Cuts I've purchased over several years, the search for a particular Close To My Heart Thin Cut die was becoming tedious and time consuming. I decided to take the time to group and separate them and label the albums with something more specific than "Thin Cuts". After pulling the 6 x 8 albums out of the cabinet in my club room, I started sorting the 6 x 8 pages that I store the stand alone thin cuts. The albums have become heavy and cumbersome because of the metal and magnetic sheets.  The sets of stamps with thin cuts are kept together in CTMH stamp organizers.

As I started making stacks, it became clear to me to separate the letters and word dies from the basic shapes. Then the basic shapes were separated from the fancier dies. So the borders, scallops, leaves, snowflakes, etc. have their own book. At some point I will probably make a 4th album of just nature shapes-flowers, leaves and such.

My video is a fairly quick view of the simple process I went through to make my life a little simpler. My Brother P-touch label maker is indispensable for me. I love labeling stuff!!

Hope this helps you to get ideas that can work for you!!

Blue Skies Z-Fold Card

I haven't made a Z-fold card in a long time. I got reminded about this cute card design from my upline, Janene Wawro. Close To My Heart's beautiful new paper collection, Blue Skies, makes me want to make everything I can using it. So here we go!

Here are the measurements for cutting scoring:

  2. Small Z Card front:  3 1/2 x 9 3/4 score at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2
  3. Big Z Decorative Base pieces:  front 4 1/4 x 2 1/2, middle 4 1/4 x 2 1/2, back 4 1/4 x 5 1/4
  4. Small Z decorative and writing pieces:  3 1/4 x 4, 3 1/4 x 2 1/2, 3 1/4 x 2 1/2

A Rainbow Sunburst Layout-Vintage 60's-70's

I was inspired by a layout on page 31 of the March-April 2020 Close To My Heart catalog. It's a sunburst with rainbow paper as the rays. We have a stamp and thincut set that has a vintage VW bus with lots of flowers, hearts and music symbols. It's so 60's-70's. So cute!! The sunburst overlay is from the Artbooking collection that can be purchased on dorothy.ctmh.com and clicking on the Cricut tab at the bottom of the front page. The papers I used for this project are discontinued, but any color palette can be used.

My interpretation of the layout:
