Boutique Workshop with added Deluxe Additions

I am combining the Boutique Workshop Your Way with the deluxe version of the workshop. I decided to use the cutting guidelines and layouts from the regular workshop so that my club ladies that want to put together those layouts have the pages they can examine closely. I have other ladies that are anxious to learn more techniques and want a more complicated, detailed scrapbook page. This also pushes me to use things that are new to me, like the texture paste, and increase my skills. I've actually discovered I enjoy using the texture paste and now we can make our own stencils that can be saved and reused. Very Cool!!

1.  Sweet Moments layout uses the Sugarplum shimmer brush to add a color wash for the title. Upper right corner is a cutout stencil of an Artistry cartridge heart cluster (p. 5, 4") with the texture paste colorized with the Sugarplum shimmer brush squeezed into the paste and mixed. I also added sparkle and pop to the flat black "sweet moments" words with the black shimmer brush.

2.  Love layout also has the word Love enhanced by brushing it with the black shimmer brush. Along both outside edges of each layout, is the texture paste on the directly on the background pages. The stencil was also made using the Artistry cartridge (p.46, 5 1/2").

3.  The Beautiful layout is a simple addition of a Sugarplum shimmer brush wash behind the title "Beautiful" along with the addition of the black shimmer brush on the punch out letters from the complement package included in the workshop kit.

My YouTube video shows how I put these pages together. I have to say I enjoyed adding dimension to my pages. I'll add more to layout #3 because it still looks a little simple to me.

Here is my Supply List:

  1. G1159 Boutique Workshops Your Way kit
  2. Deluxe Bundle
  3. All Purpose Mat
  4. Shimmer Brush Black
  5. Shimmer Brush Sugarplum

Boutique Workshop with a Deluxe Touch of Texture Paste

I've never used texture paste even tough it's been around for a number of years. Close To My Heart has just begun to carry Ranger Texture Paste in our new Holiday Expressions catalog. We also are carrying the Palette knives and blank Stencil sheets. The paste is not hard to use but I will say I don't jump into new things right off the bat. It's out of my comfort zone. So, here I go. Where? On to YouTube, of course! My video below is my first attempt to use the paste. I did not play with it before I did the video. We can make our own stencils using the blank sheets and our Cricut cartridges. I used the Artistry cartridge. The first 2 stencils I made were with my Cricut Expression at the second to highest pressure. Wrong! Use the MAXIMUM Pressure to cut the stencils. I spent a lot of time trying to pick out the extraneous pieces and ended up with somewhat rough edges. The Max cut, easy and smooth.

I purchased the Boutique Workshop You Way and the Deluxe Bundle. The cuts and layouts I used were from the original workshop kit not the Deluxe workshop kit. That way I can show my ladies, who are inclined to do the easier layouts, what they look like but then the ladies that like to do the more complicated, detailed layouts get to see how easily you can add fun elements to a simple layout.

Then voila, here is how it came out!:

The heart group on the left is my very first try at texture paste. The one on the right is my 2nd attempt and I think is much better. I've decided to level the paste as much as possible and pick up the stencil gently and quickly once you are have with the coverage and evenness of the paste. Clean up your stencil and knife quickly either with a baby wipe or water. When it dries and hardens it is more difficult to remove.

Here is my YouTube video. Please consider subscribing to my page!

Please feel free to leave a comment about texture paste. I've just started and can see there are many interesting things that can be accomplished with it.

Retired Colors Inspire a Card

At the suggestion of Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge I am using some of my favorite colors that have recently been retired by Close To My Heart. The colors I chose are Pacifica, Juniper, Bashful and Poppy. To create the card I went to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.

Here is my supply list:
  1. Stitched heart thin cut
  2. Documented Cardmaking stamp set and thin cuts
  3. Black Ink Stamp Pad Pigment
Here's a critique on our new Black pigment ink pad. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

I heard good things about it but had no idea just how great it was. It stamps crisp and clean and BLACK and it cleans up better than our water based stamp pad. This will be my go to black from now on.

Thanks!

How I Organized My New Close To My Heart Colors

Close To My Heart totally reorganized the way they organize their color chart. Previously, for years, the colors were presented in four different color families, Whimsey, Adventure, Enchantment and Basics. These groups had all the colors but were in pastel, bright, and darker shades, that could mix together and trust we could that it would look great. Then CTMH started mixing families and the combos still looked great. Now they are organizing according to like colors. I organized my cardstock and inks according to the CTMH families. Since they are no longer using the original color family's names, it made no sense for me to continue that method. On top of that CTMH retired 11 colors and brought in 11 new colors and a New Intense Black.

So I spent a couple of days making a mess in hopes of more organization, and really, isn't that what we all want?!

The most useful thing I did was enlarge the color list 250% on my printer. I love the large letters because of my eyesight. You may not need that much of an enlargement. I used that size for the cardstock organization in my Stamp n Storage 12 x 12 paper holder.

This is my reorganized stamp pad carousel:

  1. Workspace Wonder Carousel Base and Top
  2. Workspace Wonder Stamp Pad Stack

I have file folder hanging racks that I purchased from Stamp n Storage that I use in my Club Room. I reorganized these to go with stamp pads. I put several
sheets of each color of cardstock in each folder so if any of my ladies need a sheet they can grab it easily.

Daisy is my helper.

Here's my cardstock in my Stamp n Storage boxes:

Stamp n Storage description of their holders.

Keep your collections of your favorite card-stock and paper organized in a Stamp-n-Storage Paper Holder. Instead of feeling like you're drowning in a sea of paper, you'll be able to store yours horizontally or vertically in the 12 slots(1" tall) per Holder. They're sturdy enough to be stacked into a colorful tower of creativity, or you can put one right on your desk. Each slot can be removed, except for the center one, to make room for larger stacks of paper. There's even an arc cut in the slots to make it easier for you to remove the sheets you'll need next.
We’ve also designed a Paper Holder that will perfectly fit inside of the square IKEA® shelving openings like a hand in a glove.

As you can see, I continued to use the 250% enlargement of the color list. I can see the color dot easily and the name size is big enough for me to read.

I did make a video that is a little noisy because it is handheld and I'm walking around, so please forgive the fluctuation in my voice and the weird noises.

I hope you find this informative and helpful in your own organization!

Thanks,

XOXO

Close To My Heart New Holiday Expressions Catalog is Live!

Our new Holiday Expressions catalog went live September 1. There are so many new items and of course beautiful kits for the fall and winter seasons. We have some new concepts for our workshops that brings another layer of beauty to our pages. You now have a choice of a Deluxe version of the Workshops Your Way that adds depth and intricacy to your pages. For those of you that like the easier and quicker Workshop Your Way, that is still in place. For those of you that enjoy venturing into the world of new techniques and challenges, we hear you and finding ways to meet those requests.

Here is a layout using the Workshop Your Way Boutique kit:

Here is a layout with the Workshop Your Way Boutique kit Deluxe version:

The deluxe version was created using a stencil sheet cut with our Artbooking Cricut cartridge and texture paste that was smeared over the stencil adding texture and depth to the layout. This is clearly a more complicated layout.

Both are beautiful and are wonderful backgrounds for your pictures. It is a personal choice that can be used as you choose.

It's exciting and fun to bring you these new ideas from Close To My Heart. The texture paste, which, I admit, I've never used, will be fun to experiment with using re-inkers to tint it.

There's lots more to tell you about.

Feel free to "page" through the Holiday Expressions digital catalog in the right navigation bar and see all there is to see. I'll get a video out about it as soon as I get back from a scrap retreat.

Thanks!
